The Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa (CSST) was founded in 1887 by Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima (Servant of God), in the town of Ernakulam, Kerala. It was a time when the vast majority of the people were living in squalor and misery, and girls were deprived of education in a caste-ridden society.

As an educationalist with great spiritual and social zeal, Mother Teresa was convinced that all human beings are children of God, with a right to live in dignity. With the first foundation, St. Teresa's Convent, Ernakulam, she started a school where all students, irrespective of their social and financial status, were admitted. She was a pace-setter who visited prisons to attend to the spiritual needs of the inmates, working tirelessly to liberate people from the chains of caste-based discrimination and poverty.
Inspired to follow her path, the CSST Sisters established Sacred Heart ICSE School in June 2024, as an off-shoot of the Sacred Heart Convent Educational Society, Villupuram, Tamil Nadu Province.
Empowered by the legacy of our Foundress, we dedicate ourselves to 'nurturing young minds and hearts'. Her vision of education—rooted in love, integrity, and service—guides us every day to mould individuals who lead with values, serve with joy, and shine with purpose.
